Chairmans Weekly Chirp
Hello Baseball Fans,
It is amazing that as the year starts drawing to a close, how quickly time flies by! Would you believe that there are only two games left for the fist half of the season- feels like we just started! Only 25 days to Christmas.
And yes- trying to keep up with these weekly updates is also starting to prove to be a challenge- I was going to do it on Sunday- which was just a couple of minutes ago!!
I was away with the U12’s, whilst the rest of the teams all played at home, so this week’s account is from snippets that were shared with me!!
Starting with the U10’s- After this match, our suggestion box was full to the brim with recommendations, and as they were all written in crayon, I assume that they were from this team-something about sending the coach on a pitching course!!! Looking on the positive side, not every team has the opportunity of Chuck Norris pitching at them!! All jokes aside, it was a closely contested match with our juniors having lost 23-19 to Batswood……..this with one player short on the day!!
The U12’s played at Athlone and we were subjected to the same winds that were blowing in Fish Hoek. Getting off to a rocky start and falling behind on the runs….and after some typical inspirational and motivational shouting from the coaches, the team’s mojo returned! An awesome line drive past third base….and were talking about 10 to 15cm inside the line and a cracker to the outfield got the game going with two runs coming in. Dolphins were victors on the day with a final score of 10-3.
The U14’s played against the Bellville Tygers…….and true to name……the Tygers got things going by scoring 5 runs in the first frame. Not to be outdone, Dolphins stamped their mark and followed with 5 runs. The second frame saw one run coming in for each side…making the start of the game a coach’s dream!! Tense, nail biting and exciting!! A couple of changes in the pitching and catching line up-and the Dolphins tamed the Tiger……..winning the game 16-9. Well done!!
Our seniors got off to a good start……once the opponents had arrived and were leading 3-1 in the second frame. It was an evenly contested match with Batswood. Going into the 7th frame, the score was tied at 3-3. A series of defensive errors saw the final score being 7-3 to Battswood…….of which most of these runs were achieved from the bottom of the 8th frame. It was a well even and competitive game. Kudo’s must go to the catcher…..who at the start of the game was adamant he was not playing all nine frames….but did….. and to the player who was hit with a mysterious bug in the outfield…..but played on!!
See you all at training! Forecast of 30degress and a relatively mild wind!!
Regards,
